An online fundraising project organised by Humans of New York has incredibly raised over $500,000 (around £335,000) for Syrian refugees in just one day.
The campaign had a very simple aim, to ‘give the gift of a fresh start’ this Christmas for families displaced from their homelands by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Incredibly the initial target was only set at $100,000 (about £67,000).
After two days of donations, it’s been smashed by over 700%, with the current total above $700,000 (around £470,000).

The funds raised so far will see each family receive over $60,000 (around $40,000) to start their new lives.
Should any of the funds be declined by the families, Humans of New York say it will be distributed to the resettlement organisation helping with their transition.
