This detailed video provided by Gawker shows in detail exactly how Mexico’s most notorious drug lord escaped from the ‘maximum security’ prison he was being held at.
Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán made headlines around the world this week when he escaped from the prison of El Altiplano, in Mexico, making it the second time he has managed to do this in the space of 15 years.
The video, which shows the moment he escapes through a hole in his cell, takes us through the incredible 4,921 foot long tunnel which featured a ventilation system, lighting and a motorized bike that the 60-year-old used to get out of the prison ahead of security personnel.
Guzman, who reigns over a multibillion-dollar global drug empire that supplies much of the marijuana, cocaine and heroin sold on the streets of the United States, is still at large and there is a pretty big bounty on his head.
The Obama Administration is currently offering a $5 million reward for details leading to his capture, while the Mexican government are offering $3.8 million (6 million pesos) for the same.
And while it is thought that he is hiding in the mountains of his native state of Sinaloa, capturing him will undoubtedly prove tricky. After his first escape in 2001, he managed to stay free for 13 years.
