Infinity War Directors Reveal Real Reason Hulk Won't Fight

It’s no hidden secret that in the opening minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, the brutish Hulk gets his arse absolutely handed to him by eternal bad guy Thanos.

For the rest of the movie the Hulk keeps a relatively low profile when it comes to scrapping and many have been trying to figure out why.

In fact, Hulk spends the bulk of the rest of the film hidden away inside Bruce Banner.

Talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently, Infinity War director, Joe Russo, explained that Hulk’s refusal to come out is down to his refusal to protect Bruce Banner anymore, reports Cinema Blend.

Russo explained:

I think people have interpreted it as Hulk’s scared. I mean, certainly, that’s not a — I don’t know that the Hulk is ever… he’s had his ass kicked before, and he loves a good fight.

But I think that it’s really reflective of the journey from Ragnarok. Is that these two characters are constantly in conflict with each other over control. And I think that if the Hulk were to say why, it’d be [that] Banner only wants Hulk for fighting. I think he’s had enough of saving Banner’s ass.

Because of the Hulk’s flat out refusal to protect Banner anymore, more than likely something to do with that beating he took at the start of the film, Banner has to learn how to protect himself.

He can be seen doing so in the movie by taking control of the so-called Hulkbuster armour. Banner is also one of the few Avengers team members who gets to take down a member of Thanos’ Black Order themselves, in his case, Cull Obsidian.

Specifically it has been reported that Mark Ruffalo and Kevin Feige have a trilogy planned for Hulk that will follow the character through Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, concluding with Avengers 4 which is set to be released in May next year.

What the future holds for Hulk and Banner is uncertain despite the fact that we are smack bang in the middle of their trilogy.

So what will happen to Hulk? Only time will tell.

By now, everybody, I’m sure, knows the ending of Avengers: Infinity War is pretty damn intense.

One person, somewhere in the world, even passed out at the film’s climax.

Posted onto Twitter, the picture shows a cinema lobby, some food and drink stands, and the general pinkish vibes cinemas usually have.

So let’s just go ahead and assume somebody did in fact actually pass out at the end of the film – check out the tweet below:

The movie, which along with Avengers 4, will serve as the grand finale to the MCU, sees Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finally go up against Thanos (Josh Brolin) as he attempts to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet.
