Panama international footballer, Amilcar Henriquez, has been tragically shot and killed outside his home.
Henriquez, a midfielder for Panama and C.D. Arabe Unido, was leaving his home in the countries Colon province when a gunman fired numerous times at him.
He was rushed to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries. Two others were also wounded in the drive-by shooting, according to The Independent.
Henriquez played for Panama up until his death, starring in their 1-1 draw with the USA just two weeks ago.
The Panama Football Association tweeted:
We deeply regret the death of international player Amílcar Henríquez. God receives your soul Mickey.
The President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela added on social media:
We strongly condemn the killing of Amílcar Henríquez: We will give Colón all the Security Forces needed to catch those responsible.
Our thoughts go out to Henriquez’ family at this hard time.
