Last week, Rebecca Guildford put out a post explaining how her cousin Hallee Sorenson had spent her 18th birthday alone when her classmates didn’t show up for her party.
In the post, she explained Hallee, who has autism, had invited friends and classmates to celebrate her birthday at a bowling and ice cream cake party last July. When no-one turned up, she was left heartbroken. And Rebecca was determined that it wouldn’t happen again.
Her post asked for everyone to send Hallee, who lives in Maine, U.S, a card for her 19th birthday this year, and boy did the Internet deliver. The soon-to-be 19-year-old has so far received thousands of cards and presents.

So far, Bangor post office in Maine has received 10,000 cards, letters and parcels – and it’s not even Hallee’s birthday yet.
In fact, there has been so much mail, they had to be bundled in crates and transported in trucks, according to New Zealand news site Stuff.
Some of the gifts include a parcel from a soldier stationed in Afghanistan, a doll from a NASA employee, and a message from the entire state of Ohio.

A Facebook page dedicated to sharing updates on Hallee’s 19th birthday shows the teen with her gifts, cards and flowers – and even more mail is expected to flood in ahead of her birthday, which falls on July 2.
Hallee’s aunt, Robyn, said on Facebook:
Our gratitude is hard to put into words.
This is all reaffirming that most people are kind and loving, and that we all have the capacity for caring about others, even if they’re many miles away.
