Manchester United recorded a win over Tottenham Hotspur in the opening game of 2015/16 season, and managed to score a goal despite not actually having a shot on target at that point.
Kyle Walker scored the opening goal – for United and not Spurs – and Sergio Romero may have been a heart attack between two posts at times, but he did manage to keep a clean sheet, and fans will have seen enough from the players on the field to hope that their side can really do something this season.
Spurs meanwhile look as Spurs as ever, being on top for large parts of the game before going behind and then offering very little from that point. New season, same old Spurs seems to be the mantra for the north London side, and with that in mind, here is how the internet reacted to the first game of the season.
Most of the pre-match talk centred around David De Gea – or his absence to be precise, and the inclusion of Sergio Romero…

New boy Depay didn’t quite light the world on fire…
Memphis Depay didn't happen today. We wait!

This what I despise. People expecting Memphis to come in and score 3. He's 21, introduced to a new league, let him settle and develop.

Memphis Depay's debut-reminiscent of a new cool kid starting at school. Quiet for now but you know at some point he'll set fire to something
