It looks like production on Creed 2 will be well underway as they have finally found the perfect opponent to take on Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed.
While many speculated Adonis would be taking on Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago – the man who killed Creed’s father Apollo in Rocky IV – it has been announced he will be going toe-to-toe with Drago’s son, who will be played by Romanian boxer Florian Munteanu.
Known by his nickname ‘Big Nasty’ the announcement was made by Rocky Balboa himself Sylvester Stallone on Instagram.
In the post Stallone wrote:
Congratulations to Florian “ Big Nasty” Munteanu for getting the part as IVAN DRAGOS son! 27 years old , 6 feet four, 245 pounds of talent.#mgm #creed #creed2
Munteanu confirmed the news on his Facebook page saying:
Now it’s very official!!! I’m so happy and thankful to announce that I will play IVAN DRAGO’S son in CREED II. A huge honor to play in such a big movie directed by @stevencaplejr next to @officialslystallone, @michaelbjordan & @dolphlundgren. Can’t even describe my feelings in words right now…. But I’ll promise you this…I’ll work my ass of to make this movie unforgettable.
Huge thank you to Eduard Irimia & the SuperKombat Academy for making a dream come true. And of course to my parents and brothers at home, without them this would have not been possible. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND WORK HARD. #creed #creed2 #bignasty #drago.

While many were expecting some sort of ‘revenge for the father plot line’, this in fact makes more sense as Drago would be too old to face the younger Creed.
So fighting his son seems more logical and more interesting for the film’s plot. Many factors could play into this scenario: does Drago have any remorse for what happened in the ring when fought Apollo after all these years? Will the sins of the father come back to haunt to Drago when his son goes up against the younger Creed?
Will Rocky’s involvement have the opposite effect of Rocky IV and somehow reignite the Cold War?
While we highly doubt the latter will ever come to fruition (no matter how awesome it sounds) we do know that Creed director Ryan Coogler will not be returning for the sequel. Instead, Stephen Caple Jr. (who’s biggest work-to-date was 2016’s The Land) will be taking over directing duties.
The main cast of Jordan, Tessa Thompson and Sylvester Stallone will all be returning for the sequel. The script will be penned by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker (who was the showrunner on Marvel and Netflix’s Luke Cage.

While Coogler’s presence will be sorely missed – after all, he was a driving force behind the revitalisation of the Rocky franchise and instrumental in Stallone earning an Oscar nomination for Creed – interest in the sequel hasn’t waned.
Creed 2 is set to enter the ring on November 21.
