Jaden Smith has confirmed yet again that he is in a relationship with Tyler, The Creator, stating that everything he has said is ‘true’.
The 20-year-old rapper and actor was performing at California’s Camp Flog Gnaw music festival earlier this month when he began praising festival founder Tyler.
He then described the rapper as his ‘boyfriend’; the 27-year-old was standing off stage when The Get Down actor dropped the bombshell, and could be seen laughing in response.
Footage of the moment Jaden made the announcement was posted on social media soon afterwards and his fans can be heard cheering and clapping as he spoke to them.
In the videos that have emerged since, it appears as though Tyler – full name Tyler Gregory Okonma – denies that what Jaden is saying is true.
The American rapper, who had disguised himself behind a mask, can be seen facing the crowd and shaking his finger – seemingly repeating the word ‘no’.
Addressing his fans, Jaden declared:
I just wanna say Tyler, The Creator is the best friend in the world and I love him so f*cking much. And I wanna tell you guys something — I wanna tell you. Tyler doesn’t wanna say, but Tyler’s my motherf*cking boyfriend! And he’s been my motherf*cking boyfriend my whole f*cking life!
Tyler, The Creator is my f*cking boyfriend! It’s true!
He continued to insist:
Tyler, The Creator is my f*cking boyfriend. OK? You take anything away from this f*cking show, that’s what you need to take away.
Taking to social media after the show, Jaden persisted with his statement by tweeting: ‘Yup @tylerthecreator I Told Everyone You Can’t Deny It Now’.
The tweet has since been deleted, but Tyler’s response is still there for everyone to see and he appeared to brush the claims off.
He simply replied:
So people were left wondering what the hell was going on. Were they, weren’t they? No one could tell and it didn’t look to be getting cleared up anytime soon.
However, we may have some answers because Jaden recently appeared on a radio show and has confirmed their relationship once more.
The 20-year-old made an appearance on Beats 1 Radio on Friday and, while there, described Tyler once again as his boyfriend, the NME reports.
He said:
I recently said that Tyler, The Creator is my boyfriend and that’s true. And that’s true. So, just so you know.
Well, there you have it.
Although neither artist has explicitly come out as gay, both have spoken openly in the past about sexuality and gender identities.
Speaking with Billboard in 2017, Tyler revealed he had dated a boy back when he was fifteen:
I had a boyfriend when I was fifteen in f*cking Hawthorne, if that’s not open minded, I don’t know what is.
This revelation mirrors lyrics in his track Ain’t Got Time from his album Flower Boy:
Next line will have ’em like ‘Whoa’ / I’ve been kissing white boys since 2004.
The rapper also talks about struggling to come to terms with who is in Garden Shed:
Truth is, since you kid, I thought it was a phase / Thought it would be like the Frank poof, gone / But, it’s still going on.
And Jaden is admired for his non-binary fashion sense; he was widely praised for becoming the first man to front Louis Vuitton’s womenswear campaign back in 2016 and has been challenging gender norms ever since.
In an interview with GQ Style, the actor said he doesn’t see the distinction between men’s clothes and women’s clothes.
He said:
I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms. I feel like people don’t really get it. I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction. I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people.
Could there be romance in the air? Or is it just two mates having a laugh together? Maybe we’ll never know.
