Over the past year or so, Jim Carrey has transformed from the brilliant comedic actor we all know and love to something a lot darker.
Being the talented guy he is, when he’s not acting Carrey is creating colourful, intense artworks. The paintings, however, aren’t quite what you’d expect from the man behind such comic creations as Ace Ventura and The Mask.
Instead, the paintings take a more twisted, sinister view of the world, and are usually directed at something – or someone – in particular.
One of his favourite targets for his satirical artworks is President Trump.
So far, Carrey has portrayed the president as the Joker, the Wicked Witch of the West, in bed with Stormy Daniels, and nailing Jesus to the cross in Roman uniform.
The latest painting, however, has gone a step further.
Trump recently appeared on Time magazine, in a cover that is likely to go down in history as one of the publication’s most controversial.
Slamming the president’s family separation policy, the image showed Trump standing over a young girl crying.
Carrey, on the other hand, thought the cover could do with amending.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote:
So I fixed the controversial TIME Magazine cover. This is much more appropriate. You’re welcome @time
It was accompanied by a disturbing painting of Trump kicking the crying girl in the face.
You can see it here:
Some people agreed with the new artwork.
One person wrote:
This is so fitting Jim keep up the great work.
While another said:
So heartbreaking…but so f*cking true
Others, however, weren’t so receptive.
One person said:
I don’t think so Jim, stop being part of the problem….. your play ground tantrum should end soon!!! Well at least hope so….. Until then get some rest. And accept the fact Trump is your president as We had to except [sic] Obama.
While another wrote:
Jim it’s funny that you didn’t care at all when Obama was doing worse. Your liberal hypocrisy is glaringly showing.
It seems Trump has become something of a muse for Carrey, as the actor has been rather prolific in painting the president. Earlier this year, Carrey even submitted his ‘official portrait’ of Trump to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery.
He shared a photo of his incredible portrait which shows Trump, mouth agape, sitting in his bathrobe eating ice cream while itching one of his nipples.
Carrey wrote alongside the picture:
Dear Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, I know it’s early but I’d like to submit this as the official portrait of our 45th President, Donald J. Trump.
It’s called, ‘You Scream. I Scream. Will We Ever Stop Screaming?’
Again, the controversial painting received mixed reactions.
One person replied:
Disturbing yet awesome and completely on point. Got a genuine lol from me.
While another encouraged Carrey to sell his pictures, tweeting:
You should sell prints of these and donate the funds to the ACLU. You’d sell thousands plus help people who Trump is hurting.
Whether you like the paintings or not, it seems Carrey has at least found another outlet for his creativity.
