Breakups are the worst and can happen even in the happiest relationships.
To the outside world, John Cena and Nikki Bella seemed to be the perfect match. Both seasoned professional wrestlers, WWE fans collectively rejoiced when John proposed to his brawny beloved at WrestleMania 33.
In a sporting field better known for theatrics and fictionalised personas, their love felt real and authentic. And even though they are both clearly as tough as old boots, they were also super cute together.
So when the musclebound couple announced their split almost exactly one year after the perfectly orchestrated proposal, the heartbreak and disappointment felt by fans was palpable.
Now 41-year-old John Cena has come forward to share his feelings on the break up, and his raw pain will leave your feelings bruised and battered all over again. After all, you are never too big and scary to avoid the pangs of a romance gone sour.
Opening up to Entertainment Weekly at CinemaCon 2018 in Las Vegas, John admitted:
It sucks.
There’s no other way to say [it], I love Nicole with all my heart, and that’s that.
According to Fox News, John also made the following comments while at CinemaCon:
I love Nicole with all my heart, and the split is very tough,
But that’s life. We all go through highs, we all go through lows. I’m going to get through it. I love her. I’ll always love her.
The fact that my heart hurts for her — I know I was in love. So I’ll always have that.
John had been at CinemaCon to promote BumbleBee, an action packed Transformers spin-off set two decades prior to the events of the original movie.
The wrestling couple had been dating since 2012, and shocked everyone when they announced their split with a tear jerking post on Nikki’s Instagram:
After much contemplation and 6 years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple,
While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.
Although the reasons for the split are unknown, a source told People:
He was making it abundantly clear that he was going into this gritting his teeth the whole way.
Nikki is an amazing, talented, strong, one-of-a-kind woman. Anyone would be lucky to have her in their life – yet John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her.
Since the surprise split, fans have flocked to the social media arena to express their woes over the shattered love story.

Oh John, we all know how you feel. Luckily, you have an army of fans who would be all too happy to make you cups of sugary tea and listen to sad music with you.
