Johnny Depp is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood and in a recent interview he showed just why that is, as he opened up about why he regularly visits children’s hospitals.
The 52-year-old made headlines in the summer when he visited a kid’s hospital in Australia while dressed in full costume as Captain Jack Sparrow.
And, when he appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday evening, he emotionally revealed the reason why he makes the awesome visits so regularly.
The actor explained how he was in a similar position when his daughter was hospitalised with a serious E-Coli infection which nearly killed her in 2007, when she was just 7-years-old.
Since that horrible experience, Depp decided he wanted to put a smile on kids’ faces whenever he can, adding that he’s the one who truly receives a gift from the experience.
He said:
I’ve known darkness in my life, but that was the darkest period ever. I’ve always kind of done these visits, but after that the visits became more and more important because the kids, bless them, you know they’re so strong, they’re so courageous – but the parents are the ones who are slowly dying. And to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to these people is – it means everything in the world to me.
