Back in the 80’s and 90’s there was probably no actor out who was cooler then Johnny Depp. He played the badass and sensitive guy equally well and starred in a load of hits.

But in recent years he’s now more known for playing zany and eccentric characters, which may have tarnished his reputation a tad. This latest news probably won’t help either…

Johnny Depp has been named the most overpaid Hollywood actor of 2015 by Forbes magazine.

The list – based on the last three films in which those included starred before June – revealed that Depp only returned $1.20 (81p) for every $1 (67p) he was paid.

Depp took the leading role in action comedy Mortdecai as an eccentric art dealer but it absolutely tanked in movie theatres around the world. The film only made back $47.4m (£32m) of its $60m (£40.5m) production budget. The A-lister’s 2014 sci-fi thriller Transcendence also struggled and only just made back its costs.

Denzel Washington is ranked second on the list, returning $6.50 (£4.39) on every dollar, while Will Ferrell – who topped the list in 2009 and 2010 – rolls into third place, after only bringing in $6.80 (£4.59) for every $1 spent on him on Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and The Campaign.

Adam Sandler – who has claimed this unwanted title for the past two years – was considered ineligible this year after he signed a four-film deal with Netflix.

On the other end of the spectrum, Chris Evans was Forbes’ best value actor of 2015, with his films returning an average $181.80 (£123) for every $1 he was paid.

Netflix

I’m sure if Netflix re-look at that deal with Adam Sandler after The Ridiculous 6 absolutely flopped, I’m sure he will be heading up the charts again very soon…
