When one judge gave a 20 year old guy the choice between marrying his girlfriend within a 30 day period or spending 15 days in jail, it seemed Texas had finally gone full scale Florida and lost it’s mind.
Josten Bundy was facing a misdemeanor assault charge after punching his girlfriend’s ex-partner, and was given the bizarre choice by the judge.
Bundy was so worried about losing his job should he spend the two weeks in jail, that he decided to try and persuade his girlfriend, Elizabeth Jaynes, to marry him.
The couple were stunned by the ruling, and eventually decided to get married via a justice of the peace, but claimed it was far from ideal.

Jaynes claimed:
It just felt like we weren’t going to be able to have the wedding we wanted. It was just going to be kind of pieced together, I didn’t even have a white dress.
After Jaynes’ father contacted lawyers about the verdict, it was made clear to him that a judge cannot actually force anyone to get married, and the judge was overstepping the mark, with the ruling likely to be thrown out on appeal.
