In surely the biggest celebrity split of the day (Zayn and Perrie, who?), Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog have announced they’ve broken up.
The news will be devastating to fans of The Muppets everywhere, but Miss Piggy did confirm that the two superstars will continue to work with each other on-screen, so that’s a relief.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Miss Piggy wrote:
After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Kermit the Frog and moi have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe.
However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter… unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.
We expect a feature in Hello! magazine any day now.
Sadly, Kermit doesn’t appear to have taken the split well, as his own Facebook post on the situation was laced with bitterness and sarcasm, as he looked to make it clear that the decision to end the relationship was not mutual.
He added:
After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.
Let it go, mate. She’s not worth it…
We get the feeling that there’s a lot more to this story that will come out in the next few days.
The cynical part of us can’t help but wonder, however, if this whole thing is just a publicity stunt to promote the the new Muppets show premièring this September. Surely not?
