A school in England is on high alert after a series of threats were made by a ‘killer clown’ group on Twitter.

Bushey Meads School in Herts was targeted countless times by the ‘Watford Clowns’ page urging them to ‘prepare’ and giving them a countdown, which ended today, towards an undefined conclusion, reports The Sun.

Just a matter of hours ago the account tweeted ‘We’re all set. Prepare Bushey Meads’, however as of yet – nothing has happened.

Apparently the school is aware of the threats and have admitted they are on ‘alert’ – adding that no sightings have been made as of yet.

Other chilling posts on the site show pictures of the school and of their members of staff while others state ‘we are watching’.

A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said:

The Bushey Safer Neighbourhood Team is aware of the posts on social media and officers have been in contact with school staff.

Officers will be attending the school today.

Any behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to members of the community will not be tolerated and although the people dressing up as clowns may think they are taking part in some harmless fun, they should be mindful of the impact their actions may have on others.

Any behaviour that causes another person alarm or distress could lead to them being arrested under the Public Order Act 1986.

The ‘killer clown’ trend began circulating on social media just a matter of weeks ago in the southern states of America, but before long it had gone global with ‘copycat’ sightings propping up everywhere from London to Manchester and in Australia too.
