Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington revealed he ‘messed up’ his recent proposal to co-star and long-term girlfriend, Rose Leslie.

The actor, who plays Jon Snow in the hit HBO series, was on the sofa talking to Jonathan Ross on his chat show on Saturday night when the topic of his recent proposal came up.

And he used some rather unfortunate wording to describe it.

Watch Kit’s super awkward moment below:

Kit said:

I did have some plans to do it, I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff.

But we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine and I blew my load early.

Quickly apologising for the inappropriate wording, explaining to host Johnathan Ross he was meant to do it the day after with the lights.

He added:

What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early.

Kit proposed to Rose – who played Ygritte in Game of Thrones – in September, and their engagement was announced in The Times newspaper.

It read:

Mr K.C. Harington and Miss R.E. Leslie: The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.

The Times

Ross asked Kit if he and Rose, who have been dating on and off since 2012, are considering a Game of Thrones-style wedding, with costumes and all.

Kit replied:

No. There is absolutely no chance of me convincing her of that.

Recently, it was revealed Kit and Rose are in fact very distantly ‘related’ according to one fan’s bit of research.

Upon learning this news, one Twitter-user did a bit of digging – and I use this term loosely – she went on Wikipedia and found a little something.

It looks like detective Sophie has discovered Kit and Rose actually share a royal relative, Charles II of England – how very Game of Thrones of them.

The Wikipedia page states:

Through his paternal grandmother, Lavender Cecilia Denny, Harington’s eighth-great-grandfather was Charles II of England.

And Rose’s:

Her mother is Candida Mary Sibyl ‘Candy’ Leslie (née Weld) of Clan Fraser, maternal great-granddaughter of Simon Fraser, 13th Lord Lovat, and descendant of Charles II of England.

So, yeah, it looks like the engaged pair are distantly related,….apparently.

Charles II of England lived way back in the 16th century – from 1630–1685 – to be precise, almost 400 years ago.

And talking of relations, in 1677, Charles married his niece and had a ‘number of illegitimate children with various mistresses’, according to the BBC.

One person said what everybody else was thinking and was quick to point out the couple weren’t related ‘by Game of Thrones standards’. That’s a point right there.

Harington told Vogue Italia the pair fell in love while filming and he recalled his time filming season two in Iceland as his favourite memory of the show.

He explained:

Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it’s becomes very easy to fall in love.

The couple live together in a mansion in East Anglia worth £1.75 million.

Kit told James Corden back in June:

I’ve moved in with my other best friend Rose, so I’m very happy.

It’s going well, so she’s got all sorts of ideas for the house.

I said to her, cause she’s moved into my house, ‘Look darling, it’s important that this is our space. That it feels like our space. That you haven’t just moved into mine. Move anything you want around, change anything, chuck anything out’.

How romantic!
