Man Wearing Fake Suicide Belt Shot Dead Outside Paris Police Station

French police have shot a man dead outside a police station in Paris, after he reportedly shouted, ‘Allah Akbar’ while wearing a fake explosives belt.

The Independent report that the man attacked and injured a policeman outside the station in the Goutte d’Or district in northern Paris.

According to the AFP, the French Interior Ministry say he ‘may have’ an explosive belt and that he was believed to have shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ before being killed by police.

The man was trying to enter the police station and threatened officers with a knife, The Daily Mail report.

The street where the attack took place was cordoned off while explosives experts inspected the belt.

Today is the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks which meant that Paris was on high alert for a possible terrorist attack. An investigation is under way.

Two officials, who spoke to The Independent on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, said the shooting came shortly after noon on Thursday.

Police said the neighbourhood in northern Paris was locked down after the shooting.
