Konami have announced a brand new Metal Gear Solid game! The only problem is that it’s in the form of a a pachinko game (slot machine), which I don’t think anyone expected (or fucking asked for).
To add insult to injury, Konami have based the machine on the excellent Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and even released a trailer complete with some gorgeously remade cutscenes from the fantastic third game.
It’s as if Konami want to remind us how great the franchise was, while simultaneously slapping us in the face with their shitty vision of the future.
Needless to say, the fans are really not happy. At the time of writing, the trailer has over 465,000 views, with 25,130 dislikes to a mere 837 likes. Oh dear.
So Snake Eater‘s pachinko version will actually utilize the Fox Engine, which was developed for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. If you were disappointed with MGS 5, I guess this will really put the franchise into perspective.
Pachinko and pachislot are apparently pretty popular in Asia, so perhaps there are a few Japanese gamers out there who are super excited by this news.
Although I’m sure for the most part that gamers all over the world would rather Konami focused on making an actual HD remake of Snake Eater – but I’ve long since given up the idea that Konami do stuff for the fans.
Despite its increased focus on pachinko and mobile games, Konami still has one more console game planned for the immediate future – Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 will come to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One later this year.
