The National Board of Review (NBR) has awarded Lady Gaga Best Actress and Bradley Cooper Best Director for A Star Is Born.

The remake has been well received since its release on October 4, earning $42,908,051 in its opening weekend and landing Cooper and Gaga a Number One hit with the song Shallow, which features in the soundtrack.

The Born This Way singer ditched her staple, wacky Gaga outfits to transform into the struggling singer in the movie, who gave up on her dream after being met with a critical reception. The film was brought (back) to life by Cooper, who co-wrote and directed the remake as well as starring beside Gaga.

Gaga was awarded Best Actress by the NBR yesterday for her emotional performance in the film, while Cooper was named Best Director for the feature, which is sure to be an honour as A Star is Born was the actor’s directing debut.

Cooper fully committed himself to the movie, spending hours learning to play guitar and sing ahead of his performance as Jack, so it’s safe to say he deserved to be recognised for his hard work.

Sam Elliot, who plays Bobby, received Best Supporting Actor, making the film a resounding success with the NBR.
