Facebook has been awash with confusion in the past 24 hours after a photo of a ‘lake monster’ started to do the rounds.
The slippery 5-foot beast quickly went viral after someone discovered it washed up at Hollingworth Lake in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, and many people thought they were looking at some sort of ancient creature from the murky depths.
The reality most likely comes in the form of a massive dead pike, but still, with its razor-sharp teeth, this thing is scary enough to terrify most people.
The creature, that has now been shared hundreds of times, was discovered by 32-year-old Jonny Beckett, who said he was ‘stunned’ when he came across the beast during a ‘romantic walk’ with his partner.
Speaking about his discovery, he said: “I thought it was a crocodile or some ancient creature and I immediately took a photo of it.”
“It looked huge – about 5ft in length. A group of kids saw me taking the photo and looked horrified.”
Pikes have been known to grow to more than 4-foot, and are a common find at Hollingworth Lake, however, never has one shaken people up to this effect!
Carole Ann Gleeson said: “What eva it is a monster or a pike. It’s bloody horrible I won’t paddle in the lake again, that’s for sure.”
Brilliant stuff, Carole.
