Night Dive Studios have acquired the rights to the System Shock franchise that originally released on the PC back in 1994, and recently put out System Shock 2 on Steam.

Speaking in an interview with Fast Company, Head of Business Development Larry Kuperman spoke about working with a third-party team for System Shock 3:

To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don’t have, and it’s really not our core business.

System Shock is considered by many to be a spiritual precursor to the BioShock series, with both being developed by Ken Levine from Looking Glass Studios. Set on a fucked up Citadel deep in space, and inhabited by batshit insane robots and mutated humans, System Shock is widely considered one of the best horror games ever made.

With the recent success of games like Dead Space, Alien: Isolation and SOMA, its an ideal time to take the space horror genre back to its roots.
