With a staggering amount of wealth and critical acclaim, Leonardo Di Caprio is only an elusive Oscar away from what you’d class as a pretty perfect life.
But apparently it’s still not enough to guarantee happiness, according to the big man himself.
In a revealing interview with The Telegraph, The Revenant actor spoke about his childhood, his upcoming film, climate change and life.
The 41-year-old has built up an incredible fortune from a career spanning over two decades, earning £20 million just in 2015, according to an estimate by Forbes.
But DiCaprio grew up in a family where money was always an issue and acting became a ‘shortcut out of this mess’. His success soon eased the financial worries faced by his parents and DiCaprio rapidly became a household name.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he said:
I’ve been very lucky to have achieved a lot of the things that I dreamt of achieving as a young man. But, at the end of the day – and I truly believe this – it is not about achieving great wealth or success. Because they don’t bring happiness ultimately. They really don’t. What matters is whether or not you’ve fulfilled the idea of having led an interesting life, whether you’ve contributed in some way to the world around you.
Despite missing out on an elusive Academy Award – to pretty much everyone’s bemusement – after a series of nominations over the years, he’s now hotly tipped to to win the coveted award in his latest film.
From seeing the gruelling filming he’s had to do, he looks like he’s earned it on sheer dedication alone. The Revenant took place in the coldest, most remote parts of Canada and Argentina and the actor had to eat raw bison and sleep in animal carcasses.
Maybe winning an Oscar will bring him that complete happiness he’s after…
