Rock legend Liam Gallagher says he’d prefer to be in a band because there’s ‘not enough’ out there and the music industry has ‘far too many solo stars’.

The former-Oasis frontman was being interviewed ahead of the release of his debut solo album, As You Were, when the interviewer suggested he must have a ‘list’ of people he could ask to collaborate with.

Liam explained how he’d actually rather be part of a group but the people he wanted to work with were already in bands.

Speaking to Consequence of Sound, Liam said:

‘Cause anyone that would be in a supergroup or would have anything to do with a supergroup are all solo. There’s far too many solo stars out there for my liking and not enough bands.

I’m doing this cause I have to. I’d much prefer to be in a band – I know a few, but they’re all in bands. Or solo.

The ideal ones would be the guys out of the Stone Roses – I think they just split up so that would be good.

[Richard] Ashcroft would be good. There’s a lot of people out there, but the majority of them are all doing their own thing, but if they wanna do one, give us a shout. I’ll do it…. But, I’d have to be the singer.

I’m down with it, but I’m not gonna f*cking stand there and do tambourine. I need to be on the f*cking mic, man.

During the interview he opened up about Oasis and when he was asked if he ever listened to the band, he said ‘not a lot’.

Although he did admit he hears songs on the radio, but ‘certainly doesn’t sit down and listen’.

Liam continued:

I feel very proud [of Oasis]. I think we’ve done a good job, man and we’ve moved a lot of people – and we mean a lot to people even now that we’re not playing.

There’s a lot of generations that have missed out on seeing us, but they come to the gigs and they like it. It’s an important part of my … I’m never gonna get away from it, and I don’t wanna get away from it.

I am the man in Oasis and I f*cking love it.

Following the success of the Oasis documentary Supersonic, Liam was asked if there’d be a part two.

Gallagher revealed:

It should’ve gone all the way, but that would’ve been a long f*cking night.

I guess it cuts off at Knebworth because it was the defining moment, but I had some good times after that, you know what I mean?

We had some bad times as well and we had some bad times leading up to Knebworth.

We might do the next bit, who knows, there’s not much talk about it, but certainly not shying away from the sh*t times. The sh*t times were just as good as the good times.

I was on the dole doing f*ck all, so the sh*t times were good as well. I’ve got no problem with the sh*t times, man.

Either way – whether Oasis reunite or this supergroup ever happens – that’d be bloody fantastic.

Now, as you were.
