Actor Liam Neeson has confirmed he’ll no longer be taking on action roles.

Since the release of 2009’s Taken, the Northern Irishman has been receiving a steady stream of ‘hard man’ action roles, making him the go-to-guy for films which portray old man strength with a ‘particular set of skills’.

However at the Toronto International Film Festival the 65-year-old vowed to stop with the on-screen fisticuffs.

Despite taking on action-packed roles in films such as Taken, The Grey, Non-Stop, Run All Night and A Walk Among the Tombstones the Oscar nominated actor told Sky News his late foray into the action genre was ‘pure accident’.

Neeson went on to say:

They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff.

I’m like: ‘Guy’s I’m sixty-f*cking-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go: ‘Come on.’

It’s worth noting Neeson did say in an interview with USA today there’d be no third Taken movie, yet lo-and-behold, Taken 3 was released in January 2015 – so maybe we should take his ‘retirement’ with a pinch of salt.

If he does stick to his retirement plans, at least we’ve got a plethora of movies to watch where he’s karate chopped various goons and beaten the living daylights out of a pack of wolves.
