A popular lingerie shop is getting its knickers in a twist, claiming its stock could be ruined if a new Greggs’ is allowed to open next door.

The Belfast branch of Bravissimo has lodged a formal objection to having the budget pasty chain as a neighbour due to concerns over the smell affecting business, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Mike Tremellen, director of Bravissimo and obviously not a sausage roll fan, has written to planners to oppose Greggs’ plan.

In the objection he said:

Bravissimo’s operation is the retailing of lingerie and clothing made with materials that can pick up odours.

We have a shop directly above the proposed Greggs and we are extremely concerned that cooking smells will permeate into our shop.

Making it an unpleasant environment for our customers to shop in and making our stock unfit for sale.

However, Greggs don’t seem too concerned about the objection – and actually sound like they would make perfectly pleasant neighbours.

A spokesperson for the bakery told the Belfast Telegraph:

We intend to operate the store within the planning approvals already granted.

As a responsible company we are happy to work with our neighbours to try to alleviate any concerns that they may have about our operations.

Browsing through lingerie with the sensual aroma of a steak bake wafting through the air sounds like a pretty enjoyable experience to me…
