Mafia 3’s New Trailer Is Authentic Gangster Flick Goodness

2K Games and developer Hangar 13 have dropped the first story trailer for Mafia 3 – and it looks pretty fucking great.

Set in New Orleans in 1968, we play as Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam veteran who returns from the war to discover everything has gone to shit (thanks in no small part to the Italian mob).

Just going from the trailer, the game looks, sounds, and feels like the real deal. This is a proper interactive gangster flick, a healthy dollop of Scorsese with (I imagine) an absolute bucket load more shooting, killing, and general violence.

Mafia 3 is the first open world game in the series, and it’s our job to take apart the organised crime in the city and rebuild it as we see fit. Hangar 13 creative director Haden Blackman told GameSpot that it’s their aim to make the player a “co-author” in the experience.

Blakman said:

I wanted to build games that really tried to push the notion that the players co-author in the experience. We have that tag line for Hangar 13, that every player’s story is unique. That’s definitely something we want to try and push for everything that we do.

Check out the trailer below, and you’ll start to understand how Mafia 3 is gonna blend open world with a truly cinematic experience.

Mafia 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 7, 2016.
