With Netflix’s Making a Murderer hopefully making a return to our screens sometime in 2017, the hype around it has already begun.
Steven Avery’s lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, has been at the forefront of this, making claims that her client will be free very soon – and with Brendan Dassey’s sentence being overturned recently I’m inclined to believe her.
The hit series focused on the murder of Teresa Halbach, and the case has been plagued with accusations that law enforcement deliberately planted evidence to frame Avery as part of a personal vendetta against him.
Zellner recently filed a motion accusing investigators of just that, adding that Avery has ‘already completed a series of tests that will conclusively establish his innocence’.
Now one of the police officers involved, Sergeant – now detective – Colborn, who was accused of moving Halbach’s car two days before it was officially ‘found’, has spoken out about the claims.
In an exclusive interview with In Touch, Colborn said: “[Zellner’s claims] are as ludicrous as anything else she’s come up with, and beyond that”.
And when asked about the accusation that law enforcement had moved the car, he told In Touch: “I don’t have any other comment other than that is ludicrous.”
Detective Colborn insists that the case against Avery is ‘airtight’, although he admits Zellner’s decision to file the motion ‘doesn’t surprise him’, adding that: “The war against law enforcement continues and I’m not surprised at all.”
