There have been numerous moving tributes to the victims of the Paris attacks, but this particular musical tribute really struck a chord with the people gathered outside the Bataclan today.
At least 80 people were shot and killed when terrorist gunman stormed the Bataclan concert hall last night, with at least 127 feared dead in total across the French capital in six coordinated terror attacks.
In memory of those gunned down at the Eagles of Death Metal concert, one man wheeled a baby grand piano to the scene outside the hall and played John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ for the shocked crowd.
The striking moment was caught on camera by one of the many journalists present outside the Bataclan this morning, and Rasmus Tantholdt shared a short video of the pianist’s moving tribute on his Twitter page.
A longer version of the poignant tribute was later uploaded to YouTube by another bystander.
A peace sign is visible on the unknown musician’s piano as he plays the famous song, in which the listener is encouraged to imagine and hope for a better world of peace.
Lennon’s 1971 classic famously features the lyrics “Imagine there’s no countries / It isn’t hard to do / Nothing to kill or die for / And no religion too” – words which are particularly resonant in the aftermath of last night’s horrific events in Paris.
