A pedestrian in West London has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition, after reportedly having part of his face ripped off by a sofa falling from luxury apartments.
The unidentified man, thought to be in his 20s, suffered severe injuries to his face and head as the two-seater sofa fell 130ft from the apartment block into the busy street.
The sofa is thought to have been part of the rooftop furniture of the W London Hotel, located near Leicester Square. Onlookers report seeing pools of blood and a man screaming in pain.
One witness told The Sun:
He looked like his face had been ripped off. It was raining and where the drops were hitting his face it was making him scream in agony.
The five star hotel has eleven luxury penthouses priced at £9,533-a-month, with suites ranging between £2,800 and £339-a-night. A police spokesman confirmed to the Independent that the police were called to the site at 8.54am Friday morning.
He added:
The man in his 20s was taken to an East London hospital by air ambulance. His injuries are said to be critical but stable.
The hotel has acknowledged the accident, but say that the furniture came from one of the privately owned flats. Our thoughts go out to the poor guy, and we hope he makes a full recovery.
