Sometimes you genuinely have to ask yourself: “What’s wrong with some people?”

A man in Australia has been jailed for 11 months after police uncovered footage of him and an accomplice killing a Kangaroo.

The Kangaroo was beaten to death with a metal pole by a male identified as Vance Jarvis, while his friend Craig House looked on and encouraged him.

The disturbing footage shows the two concerning the kangaroo in a dam in Bunbury, near Perth where they began throwing rocks at it. Police found the footage after searching their computer on an unrelated matter.

In the video, House can be heard shouting:

Sneak out to it man, as soon as it lunges ‘boosh’, take ya thongs off.

Both individuals were meant to go on trial last Wednesday but have since changed their pleas to guilty. House also admitted to eating the Kangaroo as he was ‘living rough’.

According to ABC News, House told the court:

I tried to put out the ‘roo in the most humanely way I could

Magistrates explained to him however that the use of dogs, rocks and hitting the animal on the head was not humane. As for Jarvis he told the courts that he only got involved to put the animal ‘out of its misery’.

For his part as instigator, House was given an 11-month jail sentence, while Jarvis was slapped with a $10,000 AUS (£6,000) fine.

David van Ooran from the RSPCA said:

It’s incredibly rare — I can’t think of a time in recent years and decades where this has occurred.

This is a very strong penalty and a very appropriate penalty … it was clearly a horrific and sickening act against a defenceless animal, behaviour like this is completely unacceptable.

It’s excellent to see that the magistrate in this case has awarded a prison term.

Perhaps they were trying recreate the famous viral video of a man punching a Kangaroo after it tried to attack his dog.

The difference is that guy wasn’t looking for a meal or attempting to kill the Kangaroo in his video, he was only trying to save his dog.
