Man Sets Super Mario World Record While Blindfolded

Japanese pro player Hup Chapter has blasted through the SNES classic Super Mario World in under 20 minutes – while blindfolded.

Last year speedrunner PangaeaPanga held this unusual record, making his way through the entire game in 23 minutes and 14 seconds – though Hup Chapter has smashed this record, with an incredible time of 17 minutes and 14 seconds.

Rather than the original SNES setup, our intrepid speedrunner opted for the Wii U virtual console version of Super Mario World, along with the Wii U Pro Controller.

To his credit, Hup makes sure to thank PangaeaPanga in the description of his video, giving the former record holder his due for carving out the unseen path to victory.

Hup dies a few times in the run, meaning there’s a ton of room for improvement if you fancy taking on this challenge yourself.

As a kid, it took me around a month to finally beat Super Mario World (even longer to find all the hidden routes and shortcuts) so to watch someone do it blindfolded in the time it takes to cook a pizza kind of breaks my heart.

Still, well done to Hup Chapter I guess. It’s not everyday you can make a generation of gamers feel woefully inadequate in record time, but you’ve managed it sir.

Check it out for yourself below – though I feel obligated to warn headphone wearers of his piercing victory scream at around the 18 minute mark.

Back in February, another pro gamer managed to beat the NES Super Mario Bros with a blindfold on in less than 15 minutes. I suspect a cult of some kind is forming.
