A man in Texas wound up in hospital after he shot an armadillo and the bullet bounced back and hit him in the face.
Apparently, the unnamed man spotted the small animal “on his property” at around 3am on Thursday and decided his best course of action was to kill it.
Sheriff Larry Rowe said:
His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo.
However, the creature’s hard shell deflected at least one of the bullets, which flew back at the man and struck him in the jaw, in one of the more brutal examples of instant karma we can remember.
The man was reportedly airlifted to a nearby hospital in the city of Texarkana, where his jaw had to be wired shut.
There is no word on whether the armadillo survived the encounter, as police have been unable to find the animal.
This isn’t the first time that an armadillo’s hard shell has resulted in injury for would-be killers. In April, a man’s elderly mother-in-law was shot in the back after he tried to shoot the armoured animal.
