The argument reportedly began in October 2016, when the man moved back in with his parents in Grand Haven, Michigan, following a divorce.
He brought with him his extensive collection of erotica, said to be worth $29,000 (around £22,000). As this is a civil case, with no criminal charges, the names and identities of the people involved have been kept anonymous.
Around 10 months later, the man got his own place and moved out of his parents’ home. His folks had reportedly delivered some boxes to his new home in Indiana, ABC13 reports.
However, when the boxes arrived, the man noticed many a number of his possessions were missing – in particular, his vast collection of smut.
According to court documents, the defendant’s parents told him they had destroyed his porn.
The man apparently called the police to alert them to the matter, though authorities declined to press charges on it.
As court documents state, the man then emailed his parents, saying:
If you had a problem with my belongings, you should have stated that at the time and I would have gone elsewhere. Instead, you choose to keep quiet and behave vindictively.
The man’s father subsequently replied:
Believe it or not, one reason for why I destroyed your porn was for your own mental and emotional health.
I would have done the same if I had found a kilo of crack cocaine. Someday, I hope you will understand.
Relativity MediaThe collection apparently consisted of over 12 moving boxes full of movies, and two boxes of sex toys, according to the MailOnline.
His dad also alleges the man was kicked out of high school and college for selling porn to fellow students, saying: ‘I also warned you at that time if I ever found pornography in my house again, I would destroy it’.
The man reportedly sent an officer at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office 44 emails detailing the names of the movies that had been destroyed, many of which were said to be valuable as they are now out-of-print.
