I’m sure you’ve probably heard enough about the ‘mealy mouthed reply’ guy by now, but you probably didn’t hear that he actually got arrested for his ill informed racist tweet.
Yep, turns out Matthew P. Doyle, the 46-year-old Croydon resident who went viral after posting a controversial tweet in the aftermath of the Brussels Attacks, got chucked into a cell for ‘inciting racial hatred’, reports The Guardian.
After 31 people were killed in the barbaric Brussels Attacks, Doyle posted:
But before long he was being trolled on an entirely new level with thousands hijacking the hashtag #mealymouthedreply.
However the tweet, which has since been deleted, was certainly not the first time Doyle had took to social media to express his views.
Although his comments did not escape the police, with Scotland Yard commenting:
We have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of inciting racial hatred on social media. He was arrested tonight at an address in Croydon and remains in custody at a south London police station.
Mr Doyle has now took to twitter to argue that it was all an elaborate PR stunt.
He posted:
A mealy mouthed reply.
