The Australian actress will take on the role of Robin Hood’s Maid Marion in a spin-off solo film
In The Year of Our Lord 2017 A.D do we really need another Robin Hood film? The answer is: Hell-fucking-no. So on some level it’s a bit of a relief to see a new take on the legend of Robin Hood (who is only folklore people – it’s not been proven that he existed) with Margot Robbie taking up the mantle of Maid Marion.
The film, simply titled Marion, will be based around the events after the death of Robin of Loxley. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marion will lead her own band of Merry Men, taking on the mantle of Robin Hood in the process, in a fight to save the Kingdom.
This won’t be the first time an Australian has had to take on the role of an outlaw-folk-hero, Russell Crowe did it in Ridley Scott’s film adaptation of Robin Hood.
Robbie herself will be following in the footsteps of Hollywood legends such as Olivia de Havilland, Uma Thurman, Audrey Hepburn and Cate Blanchett, all of whom have played Maid Marion.
She’s also set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn from last year’s much derided Suicide Squad in Gotham City Sirens. Let’s face it her and Will Smith were about the only good things to come out of that car-crash-of-a-movie.
Robbie is currently filming I, Tonya a biopic on the infamous ice skater who paid someone to attack her rival Nancy Kerrigan.
Also for any of you dudes still pining for ANOTHER Robin Hood film, there’s one coming out next March starring Taron Egerton as the famous outlaw alongside Jamie Dornan (he of 50 Shades Of Grey), Jamie Foxx and Ben Mendelsohn.
