Cast your minds back to November 1 2016, when it was impossible to scroll through Instagram without seeing Harley Quinn after Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie style.
It was a simpler time, but I’m not going to say it was a better time – this year we’ll most likely be drowning in a sea of Pennywise the clowns and Elevens’ from Stranger Things.
But Margot won’t be joining in on this craze and she’s actually gone a bit niche for her Halloween costume this year.

She told W Magazine:
A lot of my friends dressed up as Harley Quinn for Halloween. When they started texting me, ‘What did the tattoo on your right thigh say?’ I really thought they were taking the p*ss.
I was like, ‘Ha ha’. But they wrote back, ‘No, seriously, we are dressing as Harley for Halloween!’ And so many guys dressed up as her, too, which is my favourite thing. Every Halloween I dress as a guy character because they are always the most fun.
Margot said in the interview she never really goes for the slutty costume, saying she’d much prefer to dress up in something a bit more fun.
Her favourite costume was actually from Spring Breakers, that film from 2012 which was critically panned.
But she obviously didn’t dress as one of the scantily-clad women from the movie, oh no – it wouldn’t be fun enough.
She went as James Franco’s character and well, she absolutely nailed it.
She told W Magazine:
I went out as Jason from Friday the 13th, with my jumpsuit and machete.
I was in New York that year and it was snowing. I thought, ‘Surely, everybody is going to cover up’. But every other woman was in lingerie.
My favourite costume, though, was James Franco’s character in Spring Breakers. I did my hair in cornrows, put on a Hawaiian shirt and a gold grill on my teeth. I nailed it!
She absolutely did. This just proves how much of a laugh Margot is up for.
You’d think Margot would be super confident now after her acting ability has garnered her international stardom and critical acclaim.
But there was one thing she had a massive problem with in her performance in The Wolf of Wall Street.
During an interview with Wonderland the actress admitted she didn’t feel confident enough in her looks to play Naomi in Martin Scorsese’s film.
She explained how in the script, her character was described as ‘the hottest blonde ever’ and she was ‘acutely aware’ how she’s not the hottest blonde ever.
She explained:
I was just terrified that people would see the movie and think ‘Eugh! She’s not that great.’
This isn’t the first time Margot’s spoken about the role of Naomi Lapaglia – she’s admitted in the past she told some pretty big porkies to her family about the movie, specifically her infamous nude scene.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel she admitted she lied to her family about that scene, saying she’d used a body double.
Margot told Jimmy:
I just flat out lied to my family for a really long time. I said, ‘I don’t care what you hear, there is no nudity, I’m not doing any nudity. Ignore anything anyone’s saying, there is no nudity’.
And then I thought, ‘Well, the movie’s going to come out and they’ll see there’s nudity’, so I changed that. The lie evolved to, ‘Well actually it’s a body double, and they just CGI-ed my head onto someone else’.
My family don’t have anything to do with the entertainment industry so they totally bought it. They were like, ‘They can do that?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, technology these days, you wouldn’t believe what they do in Hollywood’
Robbie has also recently criticised the coverage for her latest film I, Tonya – the majority of the coverage has focused on how Margot looks in the movie, something which has upset the Australian actress.
She said:
All the reading, all the acting coaching and then someone reviews the movie or interviews you and all they do is focus on the aesthetics.
You think, ‘F*ck you. You’ve totally discredited the work I did and it’s not fair’.
