Goth rock legend Marilyn Manson has given a candid interview in which he reveals how the devastating school shooting in Columbine, Colorado ‘destroyed’ his ‘entire career’.
On April 20 1999 two teenagers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, turned up at their school and began shooting at their classmates. They murdered 12 students before shooting themselves in a suicide pact.
In the aftermath of the tragedy media outlets and state authorities were desperate to find a motive or a driving force behind their heinous actions. It was in that moment musical icon Marilyn Manson was thrust into the limelight, essentially turning him into a scapegoat.

Ever since having the blame put on him, Manson has come out swinging, first in Michael Moore’s brilliant documentary Bowling For Columbine and again in 2013 on Larry King Now. Now in a recent interview with The Guardian Manson reveals how taking the brunt for Harris and Klebold’s infamous shooting effected his career.
In the interview he said:
If [the Columbine killers] had just bought my records, they would be better off. Certain people blame me for the shootings at schools – I think my numbers are low, and hopefully they go up on this record…
… honestly, the Columbine era destroyed my entire career at the time.

However despite this claim the controversial rock star’s career has not exactly stuttered; he’s currently midway through a European tour and promoting his upcoming album Heaven Upside Down.
After a more thorough investigation it was discovered Harris and Klebold were social outcasts and victims of bullying at their school, thus offering a more concrete and logical explanation into one of America’s deadliest school shootings.
