Russian MMA organisation M-1 Global has its own medieval league, where men suit up in their finest armour and duel with sword and shield.

It is awesome!

M1 Medieval has been around for a couple of years now and is developing a strong following online.

Apparently it taps into eastern European culture as it’s claimed many men in the region have always traditionally packed steel.

Artemy Gershvald, founder of M-1 Medieval told Sports on Earth:

The people of the former Soviet Union come from nations of warriors. It is not unusual for our men to have steel weapons. Fencing and sword fighting are strong points for us.

Fights consist of three three-minute rounds and the result is determined by a team of five judges.

Fighters get one point for strikes to the armour with a sword, takedowns are worth three points, but submission moves are prohibited.

You can end a fight early by knocking an opponent off their feet, and then following up with three precision strikes to the torso or helmet.

Outstanding.
