Meghan Markle and Prince Harry bought The Queen some pretty odd gifts for Christmas – but there’s a good reason why.
So what do you get somebody who has everything?
According to reports, the Royal Family decided to buy each other joke presents instead of serious gifts.
The Royals exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve and Meghan’s choice of gift for The Queen went down an absolute treat, according to The Daily Star,
A ‘Royal source’ told the paper, the gift was a singing toy hamster – and just after she’d opened it, one of her corgis ‘snatched it off her’.
The source said:
Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty. It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.
She laughed and said ‘they can keep my dogs company!’.
According to The Sun, Prince Harry once took their traditional ‘silly gift rule’ to extremes when he bought The Queen a shower cap with a slogan across it, which read, ‘Ain’t Life A B*tch’. Not sure on that one Harry!
The Queen broke a royal tradition at Christmas, especially for Meghan, when she invited the Suits actress to join the family for festivities at Sandringham, in Norfolk.
The move was a break in tradition, with partners usually having to wait until they are married before being invited to spend Christmas with the Queen and family.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said:
You can expect to see The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day.
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge was not invited to join Prince William and the family for Christmas in 2010 despite announcing their engagement the month before.
The same year, former-England rugby ace, Mike Tindall, was also not invited to join the family despite his engagement to Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips.
There had already been speculation of Meghan Markle’s invitation due to the fact her family are over in the US.
Meghan joined the congregation for the Royal Family’s annual morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church, which is in the estate.
For the service, Meghan wore a rather stylish brown coat and matching hat.
Unfortunately, a lot of people thought the future duchess’ hat looked a bit like the poop emoji – they took to Twitter to let the world know they’ve got a keen eye for comedy:
Harry and Meghan, who announced their engagement in November, spoke to the crowds after a service at St Mary Magdalene Church.
Meghan’s coat was made by luxury Canadian brand Sentaler, from baby alpaca wool and sells from £986 – she was also carrying a brown Chloe pixie bag, which costs an eye-watering £1,400.
The couple are to be married on May 19th.
An official statement read:
The marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will take place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May 2018.
Her Majesty the Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel.
The Royal Family will pay for the wedding.
Further details about the wedding will be announced in due course.
Not long until their big day now…
