Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got engaged on Monday and since, everyone, in any way linked to the pair, have weighed in with their two cents while the happy couple get on with being happy.
While most of the observers have wished Meghan – actress, humanitarian, and editor – and Prince Harry, all the best for their impending nuptials, one guy came out of the woodwork to see the funny side in proceedings now it’s been announced his successor is a British Royal.
Markle’s ex boyfriend, a chef called Cory Vitiello, reacted to the news Harry proposed while trying to roas a chicken by, well, roasting a chicken.
While the choice of cuisine could be perfectly innocent, captioned, ‘Never gets old’, some have speculated Cory’s Instagram post is part and parcel of a macho duel of skills, because apparently we live in the middle ages when men had to impress women with their prowess to win their affections…
A little like A Knight’s Tale, but with chicken.
To be fair, if the way to a woman’s heart was through her stomach, Cory, who dated Markle for two years back in 2012, might have been in with a shot, as his Instagram is a veritable Who’s Who of the dinner table.
Alas, silly sayings are not the key to finding true love and Meghan Markle said yes to Harry, after meeting in 2014 and allegedly dating for the past 18 months, according to the rumour mill.
The happy couple, who joined BBC presenter Mishal Husain for their first TV interview, revealed Harry proposed ‘earlier this month’ at their cottage.
Meghan admitted it was ‘sweet, natural and very romantic’ and just a ‘standard typical night in’ for the pair.
Speaking about the moment he got down on one knee, Meghan said:
Just a cosy night, it was – what we were doing just roasting chicken and having … Trying to roast a chicken and it was just – just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.
You can watch the couple being ‘goofy’ below:

Interrupting his fiancee, Harry joked about his cooking abilities and added:
She didn’t even let me finish, she said can I say yes, can I say yes and then were was hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like can I – can I give you the ring? She goes – oh yes the ring.
So no it was – it was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch – catch her by surprise as well.
The happy couple have since confirmed the wedding of the year will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May 2018 and promised a day full of joy and happiness.
The American actress, who’ll become a senior HRH on marrying into the royals, also intends to become a British citizen.
News of whether we’ll all be getting a day off is yet to be confirmed.
