The announcement came during GamesCom 2016, where Konami showed off an action packed trailer that suggests Survive will fall after Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes.

It seems that players will be sucked into wormholes (because why not?) and transported to alternate timelines, where up to four players need to work together to – as the title suggests – survive.

The stealth mechanics from Metal Gear that we all know and love will still be present, as players work together to perform covert operations and escape a number of biological threats.

In the trailer below, it’s zombies. Because, you know… zombies just don’t ever get used in the media these days.

Tomotada Tashiro, European President for Konami Digital Entertainment said:

We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the Metal Gear franchise. Metal Gear Survive features the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.

Meanwhile, a press release described what we can expect:

Metal Gear Survive continues the pedigree of Metal Gear Solid 5’s highly praised gameplay design, with a unique blend of stealth and co-op play mechanics. Players can strategically manage massive threats with the help of four-player online cooperative play. New weaponry will also be introduced to combat charging creatures and lethal environments as well.

There are no further details on the game just yet, but I have no doubt that a torrential downpour of hate will soon be upon us because this isn’t a ‘proper’ Metal Gear.

Brace yourselves, friends.
