To many fans, David Hayter is the definitive voice of Solid Snake. It follows then, that many of us (Hayter included) were pretty upset when he was replaced by 24’s Kiefer Sutherland for Metal Gear Solid V.
Still, fans can take comfort in the fact that Hayter is reprising his iconic role – the only snag is that it’s for a new Ford advert. We take what we can get, I guess.
Hayter shared the news on Twitter. Ford have released a pair of Metal Gear themed commercials, both really quite strange.
One features a codec call between Snake and Colonel Campbell about… a new Ford car, funnily enough. The other shows Psycho Mantis reading Snake’s thoughts. He can’t stop thinking about a new Ford car, if you can imagine such a thing.
Check out both of the new adverts below. Try and resist the urge to run out and buy a new Ford car, if you think you can fight their devilish marketing genius.
Hayter has also returned to the role of Snake for a new VR fan project. It’s called The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid, and aims to celebrate the history of the Metal Gear franchise in a way that Konami can’t shut down.

After graduating from the University of Portsmouth in 2015 with a BA in Journalism & Media Studies (thanks for asking), he went on to do some freelance words for various places, including Kotaku, Den of Geek, and TheSixthAxis, before landing a full time gig at UNILAD in 2016.
