Fugitive drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is reported to have sustained injuries to his leg and face before escaping police capture once again.

According to three sources with knowledge of the top secret operation, Mexican marines tracked El Chapo down after a tip off from American drug agents. He was seen hiding in a secluded ranch in Cosala, located in a mountainous area in north-western Mexico.

After storming the ranch by helicopter, the marines were driven away by Guzman’s bodyguards. During the confusion, El Chapo – which means ‘Shorty’ and not ‘The Chap’ unfortunately – and his men are believed to have escaped on ATVs.

After giving chase, the Mexican authorities managed to encircle the kingpin within a two-mile radius, but he unbelievably still managed to give them the slip.

A statement read:

As a result of these actions, and to avoid his capture, in recent days, the fugitive engaged in a hasty retreat, which, according to the information received, caused him injuries to one leg and the face,

Guzman escaped from a maximum security prison in July and has been giving police the run around since, causing massive embarrassment to Mexico’s president Enrique Pena Nieto.
