In April this year, a high school student did the sensible thing and opted to take a cardboard cut-out of a man to prom rather than the real thing.
While I’m sure she could’ve taken anyone she wanted, 17-year-old Audeva Agyeman decided to take her dream man – Michael B Jordan – instead.
It makes sense, cardboard can often be a lot more stable than human beings.
Taking to Twitter, Audeva wrote:
After not being able to get a prom date from procrastinating and waiting til the last minute, i spent 3 hours making my sexy prom date.
Amazingly, the high school student’s creative choice of prom date caught the attention of Michael B Jordan himself, after The Shade Room posted it on Instagram.
He commented:
this is commitment!
And while the response from the Black Panther actor himself might be enough to satiate any fans dreams of meeting their hero, Michael and Audeva’s story doesn’t stop there.
Currently promoting his next film Creed II, Michael decided it was time to take their relationship away from social media and into real life.
Audeva was brought onset for the upcoming sports drama, under the pretence of just telling her story of the cardboard cut-out. She was also told Michael B Jordan wasn’t there.
But whaddaya know – he was!

Posting the surprise moment on Instagram, Michael wrote:
I had to surprise @de.gye after hearing about her taking me (kinda. Lol) to Prom. She had no idea we would bring her to the set of @creedmovie but you know I had to show her some love since I couldn’t actually be her date
The 31-year-old actor is no stranger to connecting with his fans.
When Sylvia Wilson, a student at Temple University, decided to slide into his DMs by asking him out for a smoothie, not only did he respond, but they actually went and got a smoothie! It’s like he’s a normal guy or something.
Sylvia told BuzzFeed:
It was hot, and I didn’t think it’d be appropriate to ask to buy him a drink, so I opted for a smoothie.
Ever the gentleman, Michael didn’t even require the smoothie. He just straight up played it cool with a little back and forth on the messages and after a brief ‘struggle’ with security, picked up Sylvia and her friends.
Sylvia also shared what we all want to know about one of Hollywood’s biggest names of the moment:
He smelled like Mahogany Teakwood from Bath & Body Works but better.
I had him down as more of a jamsine or lavender scented guy but I’ll take mahogany teakwood any day.
At the time of writing, Sylvia’s post smashed past the 180k likes mark, with almost 40k retweets, inspiring the Twittersphere to bite the bullet and get sliding into more DMs.
Time to get me a cardboard cut-out.
Creed II comes to UK cinemas on 30 November 2018
