Microsoft has made an incredible leap forward in communication technology developing Star Wars-style holographic communication with its new HoloLens.
The tech giant are yet to release the HoloLens to the public and their developers are still experimenting with what their new lens is capable of, the Mirror reports.
But this latest feature dubbed ‘Holoportation’ by Microsoft’s I3D research group, allows the device to project a live image of one person to another person in a different room.
It works by using 3D cameras are to capture a user’s movement and speech before sending that data to another HoloLens user, in a similar style to Princess Leia sending Obi-Wan Kenobi a coded message inside R2-D2.
Another fun feature is that a ‘Holoportation’ can be recorded and played back at a later time allowing you to shrink or enlarge the size of the images projected kind of like Snoak did in The Force Awakens.
You TubeWhile the device isn’t out just yet the developer’s version of the HoloLens will be available soon at just over £2,000, which means it’s probably easier (cheaper) to just stick to phones.
