In a bid to stop food wastage and make healthy eating affordable, Morrisons is launching a £3 wonky veg box which contains enough food to feed a family of four for a week.
The supermarket chain has undercut its biggest rival ASDA by 50p with its three vegetable box options.
A wonky veg box costs £3, a standard box costs £5 and an organic box will set you back £8.
It is thought that buying the vegetables individually would cost the consumer about £6.14 at the Big Four supermarkets.
Morrisons vegetable buyer Andy Todd said:
We’ve listened to our customers who told us they want even more affordable veg.
They are a great way for our customers to buy British or eat seasonally or feed the family for the week.
The vegetable selection will change depending on the seasons and if there is demand for it, they may bring out boxes of different sizes.
The standard box contains about 4.2kg of veg including carrots, onions, cauliflower, swede, savoy, courgettes and leeks. The other boxes contain about the same, sourced from British growers across the country, with some of the wonky veg produce coming from overseas.
The affordable boxes will be available nationwide from today and can be ordered online from October 2.
