A woman in Scotland has faced backlash from her neighbours after she posted a photograph on Facebook of a little boy with Down’s Syndrome inside a washing machine.
Courtney Stewart, 21, said that the two-year-old boy had climbed into the washing machine of his own accord because he has a “washing obsession” and she had shared the image “as a laugh”.
However, we all know how quickly these jokes can get out of hand on social media and her neighbours in Erskine, Renfrewshire did not see the funny side of things.
The image shows a hand on the door of the machine and, despite Stewart’s claims that the door had not been closed on the boy and the machine was unplugged, the police were still called.
She says the child, who was in her care at the time, climbed into the machine and was laughing as the photographs were taken.
Speaking to the Daily Record, she said:
He loves the washing machine. We took a picture and it was a laugh.
I don’t know who reported it. I don’t really know why they would do that. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Ms Stewart removed the photograph after it was reported to police, but has allegedly been assaulted on her doorstep by a stranger who had seen the picture.
One shocked neighbour, who contacted the Daily Record about the picture, said:
It was terrible to look at. For anyone, let alone someone who is also a parent, to take a picture like that and stick it on Facebook for a laugh is unbelievable.
Well, that escalated quickly!
