The 18-year old gunman who shot and killed nine people last night has been identified by German police.
The Mirror reports that local media has named the shooter as Ali Sonboly, the son of a Munich taxi driver who is reportedly helping police with their investigation.
Sonboly opened fire at the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum shopping mall just outside of a McDonald’s, killing nine and injuring 16, The Mirror reports.
The teen, who’s believed to be of dual German and Iranian nationality, fled the mall after his attack but he was found dead around 1km from the scene of the crime.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, armed anti-terror police scoured the area around the mall and Munich was put on lock-down while officers searched for the killer.
Investigators believe that the gunman acted alone and anti-terror police say he was not known to them.
Police raided the shooter’s Munich apartment, where he lived with his parents, in Maxvorstadt early this morning, the German newspaper Bild reports.
One of his neighbours spoke of his shock at the gunman’s actions.
He said:
I am shocked, what happened to the boy? Only God knows what happened, I have no idea what happened – but he was a good human being. I have no idea if he did anything bad.
No motive is yet known for the attack.
