Between horrific thoughts of supernatural creatures and psycho killers, we forget about true horror during Halloween sometimes…like being wiped out by an asteroid.

NASA has discovered an asteroid hurtling through space and coming the closest any asteroid has come to our planet in a decade.

The space rock has been dubbed 2015 TB145, and was discovered by astronomers using the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii.

“The asteroid is on an extremely eccentric and high inclination orbit,” explained NASA.

I’m wondering if we could please have Bruce Willis and his Armageddon team on standby just in case things do turn pear-shaped.

NASA has classified the asteroid as a potentially hazardous object, but they are confident it will fly past our home at about 499,000km away. It will cruise at a speed of 126,000km per hour.

The asteroid is estimated to be between 280 to 260 metres in diameter. Space fans will need a fairly decent telescope to catch a glimpse of the giant rock as it goes by.

It would be a very cruel joke by the universe if something like this happened on Halloween. Hoping we never have to experience such horror.

“This is the closest approach by a known object this large until 1999 AN10 approaches within 1 lunar distance in August 2027,” said NASA.

So, 12 years until we have to feel this stress again.
