On Tuesday, video streaming giant Netflix announced plans to give new parents “unlimited” time off during the first year after a child is born or adopted.
In a statement, the company confirmed that parents would get the opportunity to binge watch their own kids and they would continue to pay employees during their time off, adding that mums and dads can return “part-time, full-time, or return and then go back out as needed”.
Netflix said:
We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances.
Netflix said the move is also designed to help employees avoid the “headache” of applying for disability pay, something employees at many companies are required to do as part of the parental leave process.
And, since new parents aren’t actually guaranteed paid leave from work in the U.S, this is kind of a big deal.
But giving its employees this kind of freedom and responsibility is nothing new for the streaming media company – Netflix already guarantees unlimited vacation days for its workers.
So, all in all, working for Netflix seems like a pretty sweet gig, to be honest!
